Dear Stefano

It’s a scandal if ever I’ve seen one... and every day the plot thickens. Our environment and our freedom of speech are under attack. You need to know about it and I need your help.

Recently we told you about the coal industry’s dangerous expansion plans for Victoria, supported by the new state government ‘come hell or high water’.1

Last Friday, the EPA approved one of these plans, the first stage of a new HRL coal fired power station for Victoria – the first in 20 years. This is an outrageous decision by any standard for this day and age. Over 4000 objections to this new polluting coal plant were sent to the EPA, the most they had ever received, yet they were not properly heard. The EPA has completely failed in its duty to protect Victoria’s environment and has blatantly disregarded the community’s voice.

The new state government is an accomplice to this scandal, promising $50 million of tax-payers money to back this new polluter. That’s our money!!!

But it’s no surprise given the state government is jumping into bed with the big polluters. Can you believe that Premier Baillieu’s new climate advisor is fresh off the International Power payroll (that’s the owner of Australia’s dirtiest power station Hazelwood)?2 Talk about the fox being put in charge of the henhouse.

Can you donate $100, $500 or $1000 today to help us put a stop to HRL and the dirty, brown coal industry’s expansion plans? Donate here >

Frankly we’ve never needed your help more. Victoria’s new state government hasn’t appreciated our diligence when it comes to holding them account on environmental matters, so they are now coming after Environment Victoria hard. They’re defunding us in an attempt to squash our work and gag our voice…………..and your voice along with it!

And earlier this week the Herald Sun reported that the Baillieu Government is furious with us because we support a price on pollution.3 We thought our strategy to get a strong price on Pollution and kick Victoria’s coal habit was pretty hot. Obviously they did too. But unlike us, they can’t handle the heat. OUR CAMPAIGN IS WORKING – and they don’t like it.

Please help TURN UP THE HEAT for a price on Pollution. Make your donation here >

This is our best chance to make projects like HRL economically unviable, and kill off the state government’s love affair with coal.

YOUR ACTION TO SUPPORT OUR CAMPAIGN TODAY IS CRITICAL because Victoria holds the key to a strong price on pollution. The four big decision makers who are negotiating the design of the carbon price are right here in Victoria, including the Prime Minister.

So come on, join with me today to get a strong price on Pollution. Together we can stop HRL from going ahead. We can replace Hazelwood. And we can help Victoria kick it’s dirty addiction to coal.

Thank you for your support and please spread the word by sending this to your friends.

Yours sincerely,

Kelly O’Shanassy
and the Team from Environment Victoria
