This is a copy of a speech recently given at Latrobe University in Mildura. Jan makes the point that culture is created in the space you live in, and that can well be your own place. To put it bluntly, the grass always looks greener on the other side, but if you persuade yourself and others in the community to stay put and be bold, there are endless possibilities. Life need not be “boring” in small regional towns. When these show courage and initiative they can well punch above their weight as Mildura did with the Sculpture Triennial. You only need a bunch of individuals who are like minded and you can shift mountains!
